The trend from the ramp, Lakme Fashion week
Lakme fashion week is organized 2 times in a year as the LFW summer/resort and the LFW Winter/festive by Lakme which is a leading cosmetics and beauty service in India. The event official hotel at current is the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, which hosts the 6 days of a week event, being the 1st day as the opening night show event of the season week.
The current show which was LFW summer/resort 2014, is in its 22nd season held on March 12-16 was a massive round of applause for all the designers who participated and contaminated the fashion followers to lead fashion from the ramp. The current upcoming event of Winter/festive 2014 will be held on August 20-24 and the official Event venue changes from Grand Hyatt to The Palladium Hotel.

History
The season of Lakme fashion week started in bringing out the great talents of the designers and leaving a fascinating fashion leader in the industry. Known designers who emerged from the Gen-next category to well-known designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee who is said to be the royal designer of Indian ethnic wear and designers like Manish Malhotra got their high stands known and collections loved by followers. And the king of Indian fashion Rohit Bal bringing International fame to his creative line.

- Lakme fashion week event was first held in the year 1999, when it was tied up with FDCI, for years, from then in 2006 it hosted its individual fashion week event, which a bi-annual event is leading two seasons of fashion.
- The Grand Hyatt Mumbai became its official hotel partner from 2009, and up till LFW SR14 all seasons were being held here, being a proud fashion event host and now the upcoming event LFW WF14 hosted by Palladium Hotel
- International brand labels have also been participants of LFW like Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton.
The Gen-next Designer Category
- LFW has been made proud by launching designers that are successfully worldwide recognized today. Designers like Sabyasachi for its royal touch to the ethnic Indian wear, and designers like Masaba Gupta, Nikhil Thampi drape creations and many more
- The gen-next program at LFW has been existing since 18 seasons bringing out the talent of the new designers to give them a chance to display their collections.
The Highlights of LFW seasons
- LFW 2011
The seasons held in this year had brought a new teen trend with designers like masaba by her collection, by bringing in the popping colors and the tribal prints merging it smartly with Indian silhouettes.
Sabyasachi played the traditional touch with the embroidery of Kashmir in silver zardosi and thread to bring out the beautiful motifs. The high neck blouse embellishment gained trend and the long sleeves with the embellishment of the same. Floral printed sari combined with kolkati style work on the blouses’ ad border edging of the sari.
LFW 2012
Designers created a vintage era at the ramp of 2012, by their collections, bringing the Indian vintage motifs and designs in their sari collection.
Designer Manish Malhotra worked with zari embroidery in its single color tone on borders and crafting the concept of that in various different placements. The nets came in trend, net saris and blouse of net pattern, and a half and half net sarees.

Shyamal and Bhumika had in store the elegant velvet in use at pallu and in panels which were embroidered heavily with zari and other metallic embellishments.
LFW 2013
This year brought tremendous changes to the fashion industry, bringing the vibrant neons in trend for the summers, designer like Manish Malhotra, Masaba Gupta bringing the trendy figure prints and blend of a black and white combo with vibrant hue in sarees and Archana Kochhar worked on this as well as the geometric patterns.
Designer Sabyasachi again brought the royal work embroidery in intricate designs and white work collection in this transparency theme of sarees.
- LFW S/R 2014
So far we just saw the highlights of the recently occurring event. With 98 designers participating this season.
Manish Malhotra opened the show of the season, bringing the light pastels in saree of monochrome tints and intricate motifs. The white embroidery and using a bit of the tribal figure prints in the other half of the collection.
Designers like Shyamal and Bhumika, Tarun Tahiliani, Anushree Reddy, worked on the textures and created a beautiful collection with white work and nets.
Anita Dongre created a collection with geometric, and transparency falling with sheerness, Diya Mirza walked the ramp in a classy tint of yellow and pretty sheerness.
Mandira Bedi launched her new collection line with bright hues of pinks and blues with the basic concept of neutral beiges. Using the panels or stripes as her main theme of this collection.
Sonaakshi Raaj which upspring the ramp, with intricate otigs on transparency and stitched up drapes, which has been a trend of stitched sarees seen popular with Bollywood Divas.
Archana Kochhar still inspires the stripes in B/W and adding the summer colors and flower blossom motifs. She has always had the basic theme of the hues of black and whites in geometric patterns, using her colors of the year giving it an additional touch of embroidery highlighting the saree.
Neeta Lulla presents the pastel tints with the colorful spring colors of the year in a simplified and sober concept. Priyanka Chopra walks the ramp for her.
