How to Wear Kanchipuram Saree Perfectly – 5 Variations

There are so many ways we wear a Kanchipuram Saree for weddings or for a special occasion. But for a bride, it becomes the perfectly draped Kanchipuram silk saree that has to look all put together with crisp pleats. Let us show you how to drape the saree by using your hands to pleat. Crease them properly before you start draping.

Step By Step Kanchipuram Saree Draping

  • Start by making pleats on palla section. You need to use pegs or safety pins at intervals till half of the saree is draped in pleats.
  • Use your hands to flatten the pleats and crease them properly.
  • Now start by doing the nivi basic drape. Wrap around your saree and stop at the center.
  • Take the pleated palla around from left to right, and back to the front side. Here place it at the left shoulder and keep palla length below knee level. Pin it at the shoulder evenly.
  • Now, pull out the inner border from the front bust line pleats and drape across. Drag it around from the back to the left side.
  • Pull it across to the front low hip side on the right side. Pin the border just 7-8 inches below the waistline with the petticoat.
  • The loop of saree you have in front of you is for lower skirt pleats. Make 6-7 pleats broader ones.
  • Tuck pleats in the center waistline right under your navel.  Use a Safety pin to secure them with a petticoat.
  • Now use your hands again to align the pleats of the lower skirt drape. And crease them well for an even look.
  • Come to the bustline pleats, and arrange the distance of the pleats one over the other and use hands to create them.
