History of Kanchipuram Silk Sarees
Another saree from the Southern parts of India, Tamil Nadu, Kanchipuram where the saree also gets its name from. The saree is woven in fine silk from mulberry tree silkworms and the zari from Gujarat in fineness and heavy quality.
Kanjivaram Silk Sarees
The uniqueness of the saree is from its temple borders and the joint of pallu in zari and body of saree in width section by a zigzag or temple border design. As the body of the saree is woven separate from the heavy zari pallu of the saree and is joined together by the triangular motifs known as temple design. The Pallu of the saree is also woven in a different color than the body of the saree. The zari is present all over the other color of the base of pallu and it is in horizontal panel stripes and zigzag motifs of temple designs.
Types of Kanjivaram silk sarees
The traditional kinds are the ones in a checkered base or body of saree look. These can be in different sizes from 3 inches (7.62 cm) or smaller in checks, also can be in zari and other in silk as the cross they form a checked pattern on saree. The pattern of polkis or buttis in the center of checks weaves is also a very traditional kind of Kanchipuram silk sarees.
